1.Fattening Foods & Trans Fats

The first mistake people make is not getting enough high quality fats in their diet. It is the opposite of what we have been told. There was a huge craze of non fats fat free products, and the idea was put in our mind to avoid fats when eating.

But, the truth of the matter is our body needs fats. They are essential to our mental health and makes us feel full and satisfied. If you crave fattening foods this is usually an indication that your body needs fats.

The trick is you need to be eating the right fats and not the wrong fats. Avoid fried foods, and trans fats. A lot of times you won’t see the word trans fats on food labels. Look for words like “HYDROGENATED OILS” & “PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS”. These are trans fats which are very bad for your health.

Increase your intake of “good fats”. The more you incorporate good fats into your diet you will have increased mental clarity. You will also feel full and satisfied when you eat, and you will have less cravings for fattening foods.

2. Drinking From Plastic Bottles (BPA aka Bisphenol A)

The second thing to avoid is drinking out of plastic containers and microwaving plastic containers. Bisphenol A also know as BPA got a lot of attention because it is a really bad chemical that is know to be a endocrine disruptor, and has been linked to diabetes, hormone imbalances and fetal development issues.

The FDA has banned the use of BPA in baby bottles but it can still be found in a lot of different kinds of plastic. All plastics have the potential to leech into food especially when heated. None of these plastic chemicals are good for our body.

Drinking out of glass is a great alternative or stainless steel water bottles.

3. Toxic Skin Care Products

Your skin is a direct pathway into your blood stream. Things we put on our skin enters our body and does affect our health. The average woman uses 12 different skin or cosmetic products that have a total of 168 chemical ingredients.

The average male only uses 6 products with a total of 85 different chemical ingredients. You should also be aware that there is no oversight over the safety of the ingredients contained in these products. Avoid these products as much as possible.

4. Dependence on Caffeine

Americans drink 400 million cups of coffee everyday. While caffeinated beverages can be a quick fix for energy issues depending on them all throughout the day is not good for you.

This can lead to a situation where you have severe fatigue that even a cup of coffee will not help you get energy. This isn’t a habit that you want to do on a regular basis.

5. Sedentary Lifestyle

Our bodies were made to move and we are spending a lot of time sitting at a desk, driving a car or sitting on the couch when you get home. You need think about how much of your time is spent doing these things.

If you are spending most of your time sitting around it can be a problem. The point of fitness and exercise is not only to to strengthen the muscles you can see on the outside, but also to strengthen your heart and your other organs.

Cardiovascular disease and heart attacks increase if you are living a sedentary lifestyle and you are not exercising regularly. Exercise gets your heart pumping which helps strengthen your heart.

Its important to things like stretching, walking, running, yoga, or strength training. This improves the circulation of blood in your body and help prevent pain in the body. Hopefully you will find some activity that you can do that you will enjoy.

6. Fast Foods/Junk Foods/Processed Foods

Unfortunately the foods that are the most convenient, most advertised, most addictive, and least expensive are usually the worst foods for our health. It is important to realize that processed foods in general like foods that come in a package, microwave dinners, foods with long ingredient or really long chemical names are considered processed food.

This means they are not natural/organic foods which have a lot of chemical ingredients, preservatives, artificial flavors and colors added to them. These ingredients are added to food purposely to make the foods more addictive. That is why it is hard to stop eating these types of foods.

7. Drugs & Medications

Depending on over the counter medications or prescribed medication to keep us healthy is backwards. The ideal sitution would be to have a healthy body so we would not need prescribed medication in order to be healthy.

If you are taking prescribed medications doesn’t mean that medication is making you healthy. The medication is compensating for something your body lacks but is suppose to be able to do on its own.

Avoid relying on prescription drugs. If you are taking a lot of prescription drugs together it is recommended you find a doctor of functional medicine that can help you address your issues and help you get out of situation were you rely on taking medications to keep you healthy.

Over the counter medications can be a problem too. They can be hard on your liver, digestive tract. You will know this when you take them because you will feel sick to the stomach.

Tylenol is the number one cause of liver failure. Even worse than alcohol, because the effects of Tylenol, aspirin, and all of these different drugs are really hard on your liver which has to detox your body and get rid of toxic chemicals we ingest.

8. Factory Farmed Meat & Diary

Americans consume a lot of meats at the rate of 25 billion pounds of beef per year. I will not say you shouldn’t eat meat. I think it is important that we pay attention to the way our body feels when we eat different foods and then make your own choice accordingly.

Look for grass-fed, organic, and wild caught whenever you can. When you eat conventional animal products you are really eating foods from factory farms which is not good plus bad for you health.

9. Sugar, HFCS & Aspartame

Everyone loves sugar. But, we need to realize that sugar is really bad for us. If you are eating the american conventional diet of these processed foods sugar is in everything. From white bread, salad dressing, and spaghetti sauce.

If you look at the labels of foods like these you will see that sugar is in everything you eat. Avoid high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners like sweet n low, Splenda and anything with aspartame in it. Sugar has been linked to cancer, immune system issues, and mental health problems. All bad for us.

10. Stress

Not only is stress uncomfortable and unpleasant it also bad for our health. When our bodies is surging with cortisol and we are really stressed out it affects our immune, digestive and reproductive system.

In general it can cause high blood pressure and all other kinds of health problems. We live in crazy society where we are always running around there are a million things to do.
